I was born in
I began working with horses in my mid teens and that carried through to both my daughters who were raised with horses and dogs. Eventually I branched out into the world of dog Obedience and Agility, and then also went on to become a qualified instructor and trainer.
I moved to Tasmania from the mainland early in 2006 not long after starting Herding and 3 Sheep trialling, hobbies I still enjoy. It was in Tasmania I discovered the Tasmanian Smithfield, and since then I have been in awe of the dogs, and their unique history and abilities. It came to my notice that as many of the old time drovers and their dogs died out, so too did some of the history of the Smithfields together with their bloodlines.
I have spoken to many of the old stockmen and listened to their stories, and sourced information and dogs from people who keep honest records and are interested in pure lines. Therefore I only have dogs that have come from proven stock, descendents of dogs that have been kept over time for their good temperament, that are sound and strong in body, and have the ability to be dogs suitable for either working or pet/companions. I hope to continue to preserve some of the qualities of the great dogs of yesteryear through occasional careful breeding.
